Concert Origins
This program highlights the strong bond that connects the three musicians of the Trio de l'Île: Having met in Quebec in order to make music together, their bond has now grown into a strong friendship.
Inspired by violinist Uliana Drugova's Russian roots, this concert presents Sergueï Rachmaninov's magnificent Trio élégiaque No. 2. Rachmaninov had a great influence on many composers, including Arno Babadjanian and André Mathieu, two other composers who will be featured in this concert.
In pianist Patil Harboyan's opinion, who is Armenian in origin, the music of Babadjanian and Chebotaryan tells the story of one of the most ancient people in the world. It portrays a folklore that is rich in melancholy, drama and a strong will of survival.
Coming closer to home, cellist Dominique Beauséjour-Ostiguy describes André Mathieu's music as being full of contrasts, bringing together various musical trends and styles from across the globe. Therefore, Quebec will be presented in this concert through the legend that was Mathieu.
By celebrating each of the musician's ancestral and cultural identities as musicians, Origins will take you on a journey into the heart of our musical roots.

The Quebec-based Trio de l'Île was founded in 2015 by three established and classically trained musicians: Uliana Drugova (violin), Dominique Beauséjour-Ostiguy (cello) and Patil Harboyan (piano). Their coincidental encounter at a competition while they were still students brought forth a collaboration that proved to be extremely promising. Since then, they have established a special bond among themselves which has brought forth a sense of affinity and loyalty in their audience. The trio's first album on the Divine Arts Records label presents works of Arno Babajanian, Gayané Chebotaryan and Astor Pïazzolla, and is distributed internationally by Naxos (also available at triodelile.com)
